Can I participate in Prenatal Yoga If I have never practiced Yoga?
Yes, all beginners are welcome at all stages of pregnancy! Many of our students are beginners to yoga practice. Students are encouraged to listen to their body, to rest and take breaks whenever needed. All our prenatal and postnatal yoga classes are designed to meet the needs of each individual and all postures can be modified to the level of the student. All our teachers create a safe environment where you can follow your own pace and rhythm.
I am a first-time student. What do I need to know?
Pre-register ahead of time, give yourself time to acclimate to parking in the area, arrive at the studio 5 to 10 minutes ahead of class time ( no earlier or later ).
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Heavy jewelry is not recommended. Yoga Is typically practiced in bare feet.
Our studio is fully equipped with yoga props (blankets, straps, blocks, bolsters and mats) to support you during the yoga practice. If you prefer to bring your own yoga mat or yoga props feel free.
Can I eat or drink before practice?
We recommend that prenatal students don’t practice on an empty stomach and that they should eat a light snack about 1 hour before class. We encourage students to stay well hydrated and to bring a water bottle with them for practice. We do have water bottles available at the studio as well.
In what stages of pregnancy can I practice yoga?
You can practice yoga safely in any trimester up until you give birth. All our classes are open at any level and trimester. You can start at any stage and practice right up to when you give birth. Some women don’t feel well in the first trimester and may decide to wait until the 2nd trimester. We encourage students to trust their instincts and start practice when they feel ready to. If you have any high-risk factors in pregnancy, please consult with your care provider to make sure that you are clear for exercise.
Is Prenatal yoga safe for me and the baby?
Yes, Yoga is safe for both mother and baby and all our instructors have had specific training in prenatal yoga and know how to adjust the practice to make yoga safe for all stages of pregnancy. Prenatal Yoga is also a great way to connect with the changing needs of your pregnant body and with your baby. Prenatal Yoga builds strength ,flexibility, lowers stress and aids in relaxation which is great for pregnancy and birth. Yoga is an ideal form of exercise during pregnancy and postpartum.
What If my baby cries or is hungry will this disturb class?
We don’t expect the babies to be anything other than babies during class and everyone understands that babies will take turns fussing and crying at different times, they may need to eat, sleep, or have their diaper changed. This is all welcome during class. We encourage moms to take care of their needs and their baby’s needs. We are a breastfeeding friendly facility and encourage caregivers to feed their little ones in whatever way is most comfortable for them (breasts, pumping or bottling).
Baby & Me Yoga /Postnatal Yoga & Exercise - What do I need to Know?
Babies are welcome from 4 weeks up until crawling. Moms attending should be cleared for exercise. For vaginal births you must wait until the bleeding has stopped which is usually around 4 weeks postpartum. For cesarean births you must wait at least six weeks. Most mamas start between 6 & 8 weeks, but you can join at any time once you are cleared for exercise. We have props and yoga mats at the studio, but we recommend you bring water, a baby blanket and diaper bag with any essential items needed for your baby.
